Cup Tie - 18th March 2007 at Frome
On a cold windy morning, a slightly
patched together 'A' team (due to cup tie restrictions, rugby commitments &
Mid-Somerset festival) started the game with the wind behind their backs. We
attacked from the off and after several chances in the first 10 mins we finally
took the lead with a finely struck shot by Taity which finished in the top
corner. We continued to apply the pressure, but Frome counter attacked and were
awarded a penalty. Our stand-in
goalie for the first half, Kaylum, made a great save with his feet. Towards the
end of the first half a great through ball from Jonathan saw Taity calmly slot
in his second. Conor and Joshua defended well in the first half to help
maintain our clean sheet.
In the second half Kaylum came on to play outfield with devastating effect
grabbing 2 early goals. Then debutant Leon grabbed a goal to reward all his hard
work. Kaylum completed his hat-trick. In the meantime, Frome scored from a
penalty and also with a fine shot. Jamie notched up 2 goals late in the game to
seal the victory. Throughout the game Theo chased hard and set up many chances.
Final score 8:2. Avon now progress to the quarter-final.
