Avon Arsenal Comets U10 A vs Team Bath Arsenal A

29th October 2006 at Kingswood Playing fields, Lansdown

On a fine autumn afternoon, Avon entertained Team Bath Arsenal, in what was expected to be the usual tight encounter.  The Avon team was made up of Will in goal, Max and Ollie in defence, Kaylum, Taity and Chris in midfield, with Jonathan up front. Theo and Jamie started the match as subs.

The early play was not dominated by either team in particular, but Avon were making more chances, with some good interplay, particularly between Chris and Taity – any approach on the Avon goal was generally cut out by good defence from Ollie and Max, and anything that did get through was easily gathered by Will.

Avon opened the scoring after 10 minutes with a flowing move from defence, which saw the ball moved fluently through the midfield by Taity and Chris - Chris provided Jonathan with a good through ball, and Jonathan finished it off with a fine shot from just inside the penalty area, placing it in the corner of the goal to the right of the keeper.

Avon went 2–0 up after 18 minutes, with Taity setting Chris up for a fine solo effort – he moved down the right, before cutting in and shooting into the far top corner of the goal.

Team Bath Arsenal looked more creative after Avon’s substitutions and began to create some chances. They were rewarded when their striker found himself plenty of space following a through ball from midfield, and shot just beyond a diving Will to make the score 2-1 at half time.

Avon made changes at half time, with Jonathan replacing Will in goal and Will going into midfield. Chris scored his second just after the break with a fine shot from just inside the area to give Avon a 3-1 lead.

After about 35 minutes Avon went 4-1 up when Will received the ball midway in the Team Bath Arsenal half, and after beating 2 defenders, his shot took a slight deflection before hitting the back of the net.

Avon were now well in control, but some confusion between Jonathan and Chris allowed Team Bath Arsenal to score just before the end to make the final score 4-2 to Avon.

An excellent performance by Avon with some very good creative build up play through the midfield, solid defending by Ollie in particular, and tireless running from both Theo and Kaylum.  Jamie also provided excellent support to the midfield, but had to be subbed midway through the second half after injuring his back. My man of the match was Chris with 2 outstanding goals and clever play in midfield and defence.
