Frome Collegians U10 A vs Avon Arsenal Comets U10 A
25th
February 2007
at Selwood School
Playing fields, Frome
Today was the Carling Cup Final with
Arsenal playing Chelsea in Cardiff, but the real action was at Frome
between Frome Collegians and Avon Arsenal. Despite the unpredictable weather
which ranged from a mini gale to bright sunshine the boys put in a tremendous
effort and commitment which saw them win 2:7.
Avon Arsenal kicked off and
immediately went on the attack putting the home team under pressure, Jamie
forcing the keeper to make a fine save. The Frome team did manage to break
away with a one to one on the goal keeper, saved by Guy. Both keepers were
forced to make fine saves as the game went from end to end. It was Avon who
were putting the pressure on Frome when Taity passed a clever through ball to
Jamie to find the net with a great shot. The next goal came from a long throw
in by Will to Kaylum who scored leaving the half time score at 0:2.
In the second half Will went
into Goal. It wasn't long before he had to make a scrambled save as the Frome
side desperately tried to get on the score sheet. Chris showed his skills as
he took the ball from his own half along the right touchline to score. The
next goal came from a long kick up field from Will. A back header from a
defender fell kindly to Kaylum who was clinical in the finish with just the
goalkeeper to beat. Yet another goal came when Guy crossed the ball to James
who managed to beat the fumbling keeper as the ball just crossed the line. The
next was by a fine pass from Chris to Taity who side footed the ball into the
net, and later Guy was running towards the goal when he was sandwiched between
two defenders, who in desperation kicked the ball into their own net.
Frome still forced Will to make some
fine saves but couldn't prevent them creating two late goals as Avon were
playing without Jamie, who sadly injured his right knee during a tackle,
forcing him to miss the latter part of the game. At the end he was helped by
his somewhat sympathetic team mates to as far as the edge of the playing
field, leaving Jamie to hop back to his car whilst his mates engaged in a
mud fight.
A great and entertaining game -
bring on Chelsea!!!
Pat.
Team: Jamie, Chris, Taity, Kaylum,
James, Will, and Guy.
