Dozen Goals for Avon U14

Avon Arsenal Comets Under 14 were in top form slamming twelve goals past Paulton away. In a real team effort, eight Avon players got their names on the scoresheet and the defence successfully marshalled by Matt O'Brien kept an important clean sheet.

The scoring was opened by midfielder Daniel Tope-Charlton who hit a sweetly struck shot from outside the box into the roof of the net. Captain Jake Peard followed this up with a determined two metre poacher's goal to take the score to 2 - 0.

Avon continued to pile on the pressure and this forced a penalty which Ashley Hill expertly slotted away to the keeper's right. Paulton added to the score with an own-goal which sent Avon into the half time break with a comfortable 4 - 0 lead.

In the second half, Avon were disciplined and dominant with a wave of attacks against the Paulton goal. Right winger Jamie Wincomb make good use of through balls from Tope-Charlton and the rapidly improving John Merle to bury two goals past the keeper. This included a magnificent 25 metre first time strike.

Substitute striker Barney Williams came on for the injured Peard and coolly lobbed the keeper before securing a second goal from close range. Further goals were added by Jordan King, Ashley Hill, and midfielder Sam Mason, but the biggest cheer went up for right back defender James McPhee who joined the attack to add his name to the score sheet, much to the delight of his team-mates and the travelling supporters.
