Avon Arsenal Under 9’s
We’ve had an incredible season… lots of games, lots of goals and lots more players joining in.
Our squad now boasts around 24 – 26 players at training on a Wednesday night at Kingswood this creates the opportunity to play optional 3 games when possible.
We have six more games yet to play and some re-arranged fixtures, which I’ll try to sort out in the not too distant.
Our performances have been extreme, some big wins, some big defeats, we can clearly see a 100% improvement in team performances by measuring the results from the beginning of the season with the return fixtures. There have been some very memorable moments of individual brilliance, most importantly collectively we have a great core of players who turn out regularly and play a spirited game in a sporting manner always sporting a smile. Everyone has improved this season and that’s great to see.
Some memorable games:
Beating Holcombe away 1-3, one particularly outstanding goal which came from stealing the ball in their half on the by-line… a pinpoint accurate cross resulting in a ‘mid flight full off the laces’ volley, which was unstoppable – if the keeper had managed to get a touch, he’d of ended up somewhere in the next village.
Losing 0 - 5 at Chew Valley – we had 8 shots on goal, hit the post twice and blazed a volley over the bar, proving that some days it’s just not going to go in… Winning, Team two come back from 0 –2 down to win 2 – 3 through raw persistence and character.
More recently a comprehensive and solid performance from two of our teams away at Paulton,
Team one coming away 0-2 victors with even more opportunities thwarted by some stout defending,
Team two managing to contain an opposition of 8 players to our 7 to a 0 – 0 draw.
Todays game, a physical battle against a strong Timsbury side, we lost our first game 0 – 3, we had our chances but couldn’t convert: a three v one on their keeper who pulled of a fantastic save, 4 other shots 2 wide and 2 saved. Second game, again losing but finding impetus in the second half but failing to convert the chances, final score being 1 – 2, third game WIN: our last team out finding the net 4 times to seal a 4 – 2 home victory.
A great start to a busy season and no doubt plenty of opportunities will arise for tournaments over the next few months.
